SHRM is the world's largest organization dedicated exclusively to the human resource profession. The Institute's purpose is to promote the establishment of professional standards and to recognize professionals who meet those standards.

The distinguished award was presented at the annual Maine Human Resources Convention held at the Samoset Resort in Rockland on May 13, 2010. The annual award recognizes an active Maine Human Resources Leader who exemplifies excellence in the Human Resource Profession.  The award is given to recognize one's service to the Maine Human Resource Community, advancement of the Human Resource Profession, and presented to a professional regarded as a leader and role model by peers and the business community.

This year's winner, Kristine Avery, has extensive experience in human resources management. In her current role at FISC Solutions as the SVP of HR, she has led the Human Resource and Training & Development function since 2000.  Kristine earned her Senior Professional in Human Resources accreditation in 2007 and has served as an instructor for the University of Southern Maine's Human Resources Certification Preparatory Course (PHR and SPHR) for the past 3 years. In addition, Kristine serves as the President of the Human Resources Association of Southern Maine (HRASM) and the Deputy Director of the SHRM Maine State Council. She is also a board member for Casco Federal Credit Union and the Windham Nazarene Church.
